History of Bhosari

Though locally Bhosari is been popular as Bhosari, the original name as per the history of Bhosari is none other than Bhojapur. Bhojapur was ruled over by King Bhoj, around thousands of year ago. Later on Bhojapur became the capital of his kingdom and a prime place for traders. Bhojapur also finds existence in the legendary tales of Mahabharata, where it was known as Bhojakata. Even then this city remain the capital of the King Rukmi’s Kingdom.

Pataleshwar Cave Temple | The Rock Cut Temple in Pune

Pune city is one of the most visited cities in Maharashtra State. The pathaleshwar cave temple is one of the tourist attractions of Pune city.

The Pataleshwar cave temple of Pune, is located on the Jungli Maharaj Road in Shivaji Nagar. The history of Pataleshwar cave temple dates back to the 8th century AD.

Pataleshwar cave temple of Pune, situated just across the river on the Jungli Maharaj Road, is a heritage site for Pune with a long history dating back to the 8th century AD. One of the remarkable feature of this attractive cave temple is that it has resemblance with the massive rock-cut temples of Ellora.

The Pataleshwar cave temple is a huge temple which is a cave temple carved out of a single rock. The Pataleshwar cave temple is made from a single block of stone, and houses gigantic pillars, a shrine of Lord Shiva and a nandi bull. The pataleshwar cave temple was carved out in the Rashtrakuta period.

The Pataleshwar cave temple was made with Basalt rock. There is a cave in the vicinity of the temple, the reason for the temple getting its name as the ‘Pataleshwar Cave Temple’.

The Pataleshwar cave temple also has a shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This religious shrine on the Jungli Maharaj Road in Pune has very big statues of Nandi, Sita, Ram, lakshman, Lakshmi, Ganesh, and a big sized Shiva lingam under its roof. The Shiva lingam is situated in a cube-shaped room about 3 to 4 meters on each side which is located in the middle of the Pataleshwar cave temple in Pune. We can also see a brass bell hanging outside the entry way of the temple which adds to the attraction of the temple.

We can see a circular shaped Nandi mandapa, and its umbrella shaped canopy supported by huge square shaped pillars.

In front of the cave is a circular Nandi Mandapa, its umbrella shaped canopy supported by massive square pillars. This Nandi Mandapa is one of the peculiar structures of Pataleshwar cave temple.
The entrance of the Pataleshwar cave temple is a worth seeing place, as it highlights a good sense of geometry of the architects. We can also see a nice seating arrangement along with small rooms for the visitors who visit this famous temple in Pune.

The sculpture of the Pataleshwar cave temple is not completed but left incomplete.

We can also see a museum beside the Pataleshwar cave temple of Pune. This museum is enlisted in the Guinness Book of World records. We can see the exhibit of a grain of rice which has around 5,000 characters inscribed on it.

Superb Shaniwar Wada | The glory of Maratha power

Shaniwar Wada of Pune is one of the best places to visit in Pune. It not only symbolises the history of Pune but also the glory of Maratha power. Shaniwar Wada was built by Bajirao I in the year 1730 AD. His successors had fortified it later on. The palace was damaged in a fire accident and now only ruins of the palace can be seen by the visitors.

 

 

Now the visitors can see the fortification wall with five gates, viz.,Dilli Darwaja(Delhi Gate),Mastani or Alibahadur Darwaja(Alibahadur Gate), Khidki Darwaja(Khidki Gate), Ganesh Darwaja(Ganesh Gate) and Narayan Darwaja(Narayan Gate). Scenes of Mahabharata and Ramayana, the epics of India are painted on the walls of the palace. One might think of the great skill of workers by seeing the lotus shaped fountain of Shaniwar Wada.

Light and Sound Show at Shaniwar Wada :-

Light and Sound show is conducted daily in Shaniwar Wada which is the main attraction for the visitors.The show is divided into two parts. First one is from 0715 pm to 0815 pm which is dedicated for Marathi music, and the second part is from 0815 pm to 0915 pm dedicated for English music. And the ticket is affordable at 25 rupees per person. Tickets are issued from 0630 pm to 0830 pm daily and unfortunately there is no advance booking system yet. So if you are planning to see the Light and Sound show, please reach Shaniwar Wada well before time to avoid any inconveniences.

Lonavala – The Jewel of Sahyadri Mountains

 

Lonavala is an important hill station and one of the most visited tourism attraction near Pune in Maharashtra. Lonavala is located at a height of 625 mtrs. above the sea level. History of Lonavala

The historic city of Lonavala was first discovered by the Governor of Bombay, Sir Elphinstone in the year 1811. The location of Lonavala at that time was just a thick forest and a handful of people lived here. Due to the thick forest, this place was called as “Lonali”. Slowly it has become “Lonavali” and now the name is “Lonavala”.

Yadava kings first ruled Lonavala. Mughals then invaded and they ruled this historic place for a long time. It was then ruled by Peshwas. The British army captured Khandala Ghat in 1778. The British started to rule this region from 1818.

This is a temple close to Lonavala situated on a mountain, which is difficult to climb. We can only walk to this place by foot. Vehicles cannot reach this place. We can see the thick forests, deep valleys, strange noises made by peacocks and monkeys etc. at this place. The approach to the road is by a small zigzag path that is only a had wide. From here there is a 50 feet cliff upto the temple.

HOW TO REACH LONAVALA

BY AIR – Lonavala does not have an airport. The nearest airport is in Pune, which is 64 km from Lonavala. From Pune we can either hire a taxi, or come by local train to Lonavala.

BY RAIL – As Lonavala is on the main railway line between Mumbai (Bombay) and Pune (Poona), all express trains plying between the two cities stop here.

BY ROAD – There are lot of local buses operated by Maharashtra government and also private operators buses from Pune to Lonavala.
