Dear Friends,
Shaniwar Wada of Pune is one of the best places to visit in Pune. It not only symbolises the history of Pune but also the glory of Maratha power. Shaniwar Wada was built by Bajirao I in the year 1730 AD. His successors had fortified it later on. The palace was damaged in a fire accident and now only ruins of the palace can be seen by the visitors.
Now the visitors can see the fortification wall with five gates, viz.,Dilli Darwaja(Delhi Gate),Mastani or Alibahadur Darwaja(Alibahadur Gate), Khidki Darwaja(Khidki Gate), Ganesh Darwaja(Ganesh Gate) and Narayan Darwaja(Narayan Gate). Scenes of Mahabharata and Ramayana, the epics of India are painted on the walls of the palace. One might think of the great skill of workers by seeing the lotus shaped fountain of Shaniwar Wada.

Hence Shaniwar Wada stands apart as a historical monument of Pune.
